The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon: An Off-Roaders Fantasy

Invision Filbert Street in San Francisco, which at a 33 degree angle is the steepest paved hill in the Western Hemisphere.  Now, add on an additional 12 degrees, remove the pavement , throw in a sea of boulders and you’ve got a road that’s ready for a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, a off-roaders fantasy come true.  We’ve got you covered: there is always one available at your Seattle Jeep Dealer, The Rairdon Group.

The beautiful thing about the Jeep is that is hasn’t changed much over the years.  I mean, if it ain’t broken, why fix it?  Originally a baby of World War II, this automobile literally helped the Allies win the war.  In fact, General George Marshall called the Jeep, “America’s greatest contribution to modern warfare.”   When it was introduced to the public, it gave freedom to regular civilians and allowed them to go where no man had been able to go before and a new past time was born: off roading.  The design of the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is a grandchild of the Jeep Wrangler.

Introduced in 2003 and revamped in 2007, the Rubicon has a quiet and light 3.8L SMPI V6 engine, but don’t let that fool you-it has a powerful 202 hp and 237 lb-ft of torque.  The Rock-Trac® transfer case boasts a 4:1 low gear ratio that allows this beast to crawl at a low speed for more control.  It also has a 73.1:1 crawl ratio which allows for a controlled .5 mph jaunt up the rocks.  Next Generation Dana® 44 heavy duty solid front and rear axles have a larger ring gear, stiffer and stronger housing, and larger pinion bearings to handle added torque requirements.

Electronic-locking front and rear differentials balance speed between left and right. wheels maintaining forward momentum for the ultimate in Wrangler traction.  The instrument panel-mounted rocker switch can lock the rear, the front, or botr axles.  Traction control applies the brakes and in some cases closes the throttle to minimize wheel spin during acceleration.  Traction Control is tuned for on-road activity during normal operation, but reverts to Brake Lock Differential operation during off-road driving.

In 2007, the Jeep brand was tweeked ever so slightly, giving us the art on wheels that we see today.  They also added a couple of doors to the Unlimited model.  The four-door Unlimited, which seats 5, brings a unique silhouette to the world.

Automobile Magazine says “it inhabits its own new market niche: the four door convertible. USA Today thinks it’s “fancy and genteel by Wrangler standards,” while Cars.com deems it “refined and masculine,” and Edmunds calls it “strangely attractive.”

Cars.com comments that now, with the extra two doors, “You could almost call it a civilized design.”

The full metal doors are easily removable with or without available power windows and power locks.
The legs of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon are the 17-Inch Aluminum Wheels, LT255/75R17 BSW Off-Road tires and it comes with a matching Spare Wheel.  With the flip of a switch, the front sway bar is disengaged when driving under 18 mph in four-wheel-drive low range. This allows the wheels to drop and compress up to an additional 20 percent for outstanding wheel articulation.

The tops are incredibly easy to remove, whether it is the soft top or the 3 paneled hard top.  The Sunrider Soft Top lets you quickly get cover or let the sun shine in without having to fold down the entire top.  It’s like a sunroof for the soft top.

Jeep Knows you’re precious cargo and it prides itself on safety.  The Wrangler’s safety and security feautures are far-reaching, including the five star frontal crash test rating- the highest a car can get.  The car is equipped with advanced multistage front airbags, available seat mounted supplemental side air bags and electronic stability program (ESP).  This is designed to assist drivers in maintaining control of their vehicle at all times, especially on low-friction surfaces.

Seattle Jeep Dealers Have The Award Wining Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

Rairdon Auto Group’s Seattle Jeep dealership is proud to announce the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has been named the Best 4×4 Vehicle of the Decade. See our wide selection of Jeep Wrangler Rubicons at our Seattle Jeep dealership and have no fear to go off-road through Washington State trails.

Four Wheeler magazine editors have named the Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon and Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon the Best 4×4 Vehicle of the Decade, while calling out the four-door Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon as the decade’s most significant 4×4 vehicle.

“Jeep vehicles have earned many awards in the almost 70-year history of the iconic brand, but few have been as prestigious as these accolades from the editors at Four Wheeler magazine,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO — Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is clearly the most capable production vehicle on the planet, and in four-door Unlimited form, families can enjoy the combination of capability, freedom, space and comfort that only Jeep can provide.”

In recognizing the 2007-present Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon as the Best 4×4 of the Decade, Four Wheeler magazine editor Doug McColloch said, “The JK (current version) Wrangler represented a big step up in on-road ride and handling for Jeep’s flagship ride, yet it’s off-road capability wasn’t compromised in the least. If anything, it was only enhanced. Considering how competent in the dirt the previous-generation TJ was, that was no small feat for Chrysler engineers to pull off. But somehow they managed to do it, creating the decade’s best four-wheel drive in the process.”

In calling the 2007-present Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon the Most Significant SUV of the Decade, editor Sean Holman said, ” (The decision to produce a four-door Wrangler) will probably go down in history as one of the smartest product moves any automotive company has ever made. From a Jeep customer perspective, the four-door was pure genius, opening up the sport of ‘Jeeping’ to families. No longer would you have to choose your kids or your gear. It also made the Jeep brand accessible to people who have always loved the idea of a Wrangler, but never thought the vehicles were large enough or functional enough to fit their lifestyle and/or needs.”

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is the only four-door open-air SUV on the market with room for five adult passengers and is extremely popular with customers who want a Jeep Wrangler, but need additional space and versatility.

Standard on both models is the innovative Sunrider® soft top, which includes a sun roof in addition to the full top-down option. Wrangler’s available Freedom Top,® a three-piece modular hard top, features three panels — left and right front-passenger panels and a rear panel — providing more options for open-air driving. Either top may be completely removed for a complete open-air experience.
